The Hollows Case
(Warburton Environment vs DEECA)

Logging clearly isn’t finished in Victoria, it’s just business as usual under a different name, and even Victoria’s most iconic National Parks aren’t safe from the government’s logging industry.

That’s why community group Warburton Environment is taking this fight to the courtroom – and they can't do it without your help!

Forest Country

Forest Country documents the destruction now at the centre of a landmark Federal Court case brought by Warburton Environment.

By 2024 the Victorian government announced the end of native forest logging, only for it to continue in more insidious forms. Film maker Lewi Haskins made himself a promise that if his forest community came under the threat of logging, he would protect it the best way he knew how - through film.

Forest Country is the powerful and deeply moving result of that promise. Shot over the course of a year alongside activists, conservationists, and ecologists, the film bears witness to the ongoing destruction of native ecosystems, the death of endangered wildlife, and the growing risks to community safety.

This Mountain Ash, measuring 2.7m in diameter at breast height, was protected under the Flora and Fauna Guarantee Act 1988. Its destruction is a serious breach of environmental law.

With the support of Patagonia, WOTCH, Warburton Environment, and Lewi are proud to present the premiere of the film at Patagonia’s Melbourne CBD store on Wednesday the 13th of August, followed by a screening at the Cameo in Belgrave on Friday 15th August.
